Experian equips a modern laboratory at the Technical University in Sofia

The project provides up to 30,000 BGN to support the education of the future Big Data and Analytics specialists.

Sofia, Bulgaria, 20 November 2014 - Experian, the global information services company, today announced that it finances the building and equipment of a new modern laboratory in the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Informatics in the Technical University in Sofia.

The laboratory supports the education of students in the area of Big Data, including Data Analysis, the extraction of information from large data sets, the development of mathematical models, and the optimisation of technological processes and marketing strategies. The modern laboratory has 25 working stations and is used by students with bachelor and master degrees and PhDs from all departments and specialties in the Faculty.

Alexander Efremov, Senior Business Analyst in Experian and Associate Professor in the Department of Automation and Continuous Manufacture at the university, is the pioneer of the project. He commented: “Working both in the business and the education sphere I come across the discrepancy between the actual requirements and needs of the business and the level of knowledge of the students in the technical specialties. Thus the idea was given to try and improve the conditions and quality of education. I am happy that Experian and the people working in the company took part in the realization of this idea”.

The initiative provides up to 30,000 BGN and includes financial support for the building of the laboratory and the provision of modern equipment for it. Experian also gives students the opportunity to use for free its Model Development Studio (MDS), an innovative toolset that delivers high-end analytics across a range of business applications.

Maya Milanova, Site Operations Manager, Experian, Bulgaria, said: “One of the priorities of Experian as a socially engaged company is the active cooperation with the Bulgarian universities towards development of the technical higher education. This is accomplished by sharing experience and knowledge in seminars, courses, and summer internships, led by our experts such as Alexander, by sharing know–how and provision of our own software products.I am glad that the first project of this kind has launched and that we continue to work in this direction.”
