New Experian Data Quality study finds 85 percent of companies experience data migration challenges around communication, system design and data quality

Boston, Mass., April 28, 2015 — Experian Data Quality, a leading provider of data quality software and services, today announced the release of a new research study, Ease the data migration burden. The study finds that while the majority of organizations are engaging in data migrations, they face significant challenges that affect the success of their projects.

To ease these challenges, organizations need to improve communication techniques with early stakeholder engagement, improve data management processes and ensure profiling and analysis take place. The data finds:
• While 91 percent of businesses engage in data migration projects, 85 percent face challenges
• Organizations are plagued by a high degree of inaccurate information with a third of data in U.S. organizations believed to be inaccurate
• The most common challenge is a lack of collaboration or sharing of knowledge across departments, with technology providers, or with database consultants

“Data migrations have become an essential part of data management, with a large number of system upgrades, mergers or general data consolidation,” said Thomas Schutz, senior vice president and general manager of Experian Data Quality. “The desire to gain insight from data is so great that these projects are of critical importance to gaining customer understanding and executing business operations. While many face challenges, they can be alleviated or lessened with the right level of planning and data insight early and often throughout the project.”
