Experian achieves recognition for improved CR performance

Improvements in Experian’s CR performance in 2009 resulted in our inclusion in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) and the FTSE4Good. We were also ranked as one of the top ten performers in the FTSE 350 by the UK’s ‘Good Companies Guide’ for our position on gender diversity in management. These global achievements were complemented by a strong regional profile, including a number of awards recognising outstanding practice with a CR focus.

The Group was included in the DJSI at both a world and European level. This is seen as quite an achievement, as only the top performing 10% of companies globally are included. You can read the full DJSI report on Experian.

Experian has also been included again in the FTSE4Good Index and rated by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) with a score that took us above the FTSE Industrial Sector and the overall FTSE 350 average on eight out of twelve of the grouped responses. The side bar shows our scoring and provides a link to the CDP site.

In August, The Observer newspaper published a feature on its ‘Good Companies Guide’ and the top performing companies in the UK. It ranked Experian seventh in the FTSE 350. Contributing factors to our overall score included full disclosure in our CR report of our male/female split in senior management and the description of a development programme targeted specifically at women. For more information, read about The Observer Good Companies Guide and our case study on diversity practice.

Regionally we have been recognised as one of the leading sustainable businesses in Brazil with Serasa Experian being listed for the 10th consecutive time in the top 20 of the EXAME Sustainability Guide 2009, the most important business magazine in Brazil.

In the UK, Experian’s public sector division and its charity client, The British Lung Foundation, collected Data Strategy magazine’s highly prized Grand Prix Award for the Best use of Data in all Categories. This was partly for its work in identifying the “missing millions” suffering from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.

In the US, we have received public thanks and press coverage for major community donations to the University of California, Irvine (UCI) and for our partnership with the National Consumers League LifeSmarts program. This latter partnership enabled the program to be incorporated into the Family Career and Community Leaders of America organization, providing critical financial knowledge to students in public schools across the United States.
